昨年9月のリーマン・ショック以降、100年に一度といわれる経済不況がファッション・ビジネスはもちろんのこと、ファッション･メディアにも深刻な影を落としている中、この贈賞式がファッション業界やファッション・メディアを覆っている陰鬱な気分を拭き払おうことができればという思いを込めて。

  報道陣の数は前回を上回り40社以上、TVは4局が取材、出席者もファッション界の重鎮たちをはじめ、海外ブランドの日本のトップのほとんどが出席という華やかな会となった。受賞者の方々は、多くの出席者と報道陣の数に、壇上では少し緊張気味ではあったが、さすがに嬉しそう。FECとしても開催した意義はあったと改めて思う。

  これからまだまだ経済不況が続く中、ボランティア組織であるFECがどこまで役割を果たせるか、またさらにどのような歴史を積み上げていくのか、改めて責任の重さを認識せずにはいられない。

FEC and GUCCI Night at Le BARON

  FEC賞贈賞式とパーティーがコンラッド東京で開催された後、午後9;30からは青山の「 ル・バロン」でフリーダ･ジャンニーニのFECインターナショナル・デザイナー・オブ・ザ・イヤー賞受賞の祝賀パーティーが開かれた。フリーダはシャンパングラスを片手に踊るだけではなくDJ　BOXにまで入り込み、マドンナの曲に合わせて歌うなどオオノリ。 祝宴は深夜まで続いた。

The 52nd Annual FEC Awards hosted by Fashion Editors Club of Japan was held at Conrad Tokyo on June 1st, 2009.

FEC awards are given to those professionals for their excellence in design as well as those who have made a remarkable contribution to, or a great impression on the world of fashion.

Winners for the 2009 FEC Awards were as follows:

The worst economic depression for 80 years has had an impact on the fashion and fashion media industries. In such a gloomy environment, we felt that the FEC Awards would be a welcome change and a refreshing moment to celebrate fashion.

Four TV networks and almost 50 press covered the event, which was attended by influential figures in the fashion industry and the Japan representatives of international brands. The award winners on the stage seemed to be nervous and excited due to the many attendees. As host, we were pleased to be part of such a successful evening.

The worldwide economic depression continues, however we explore what we can do, and how we can build on the awards as a non-profit organization with a social conscience.

FEC and GUCCI Night at Le BARON

The ceremony and party held at Conrad Tokyo was followed by an 80’s-themed celebration party for Frida Giannini, International Designer of the Year, at Le BARON, Aoyama. Giannini sang and danced to Madonna with champagne glass in hand. The party lasted far into the night.

　昨年急逝された、メーキャップ・アーティストのパイオニア、シュウ・ウエムラ氏に代わり、贈賞式にはご子息の植村浩氏が出席し受賞の喜びを語った。
　特別賞に輝いた菊地凛子さんは、この日のためにステファノ・ピラーティがデザインしたというレインボーカラーのドレスで登場し出席者の目を釘付けにさせた。
　デザイナー・オブ・ザ・イヤーを受賞した「LIMI feu」のデザイナー、山本里美氏は「今まで親の七光りと言われたりしたが、この受賞でもうそんなことは誰も言わなくなるだろう」とコメント。彼女のFEC賞受賞で日本の若手デザイナーが刺激を受け、これから続々と優秀なデザイナーが現れるのをFECとして期待したい。
FECインターナショナル・デザイナー・オブ・ザ・イヤーに輝いた「イヴ・サンローラン」のステファノ・ピラーティ氏は、この贈賞式のためだけに来日。 「日本は、深みのある洗練された美でインスピレーションを与えてくれる国。ここで受賞できることを光栄に思う」と語った。
翌日（5月28日）から「ビジネス・オブ・ラグジュアリー・サミット」が開催されたこともあり、会場には世界中から集まったラグジュアリー・ブランドのトップ達も多く顔を見せていた。

The grandest event of FEC's calendar, the annual FEC Awards was held at Tokyo's Conrad Hotel on May 27th.
As last year's ceremony was centred around FEC's 50th anniversary and was a gathering of past winners reflecting on FEC's history and success, so this year was an opportunity to look towards the next 50 years with a reminder of FEC's origins and mission. Keeping the idea of Tokyo as a fashion starting point in mind, the award for Designer of the Year was awarded in 2 categories, domestic and international.
Due to the 'Business of Luxury Summit'being held the following day, the banquet room was attended by many executives of the world's top brands.

Winners for the 2008 FEC Awards were as follows:-

Accepting the award on behalf of Shu Uemura, whose sudden passing last year was a sad loss to the fashion community, was his son Hiroshi Uemura.
Winner of the FEC Special Award, Rinko Kikuchi was resplendent in a rainbow coloured dress, esecially made for her by YSL's Stephano Pilati.
Limi Yamamoto, this year's Designer of the Year for her label 'Limi feu', spoke of her satisfaction at gaining recognition for her own work, rather than the association of her label with that of her father. News of her award rippled excitedly through the fashion world's younger up and coming designers and FEC look forward to the discovery and support of more young and talented designers.
FEC International Designer of the Year, Stephano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent, who flew into Tokyo for the occasion, said, " The depth of refined beauty in this country gives me great inspiration. I am honoured to receive this award in Japan."
